Lyrics

A picket fence with ivy growin'

Roses up and overflowin'

Waves of tulips drifting from my view

Just a day in a hundred comin'

Just a wind up clock still runnin'

Fifty years I would spend with you

If you told me this is where i'd be

A thousand miles across the sea

From a land I loved before

     Never returning there no more

I'd call you crazy and mislead

     Something wrong inside your head

Yet I stand with you today

And your smile still my bouquet..

The rose is healthy, keeps a bloom

The ivy climbs like it's supposed to do

Waving tulips still in my view

Just a day in a hundred comin'

Just a wind up clock still runnin'

Fifty years i have spent with you

Fifty years all came true

Fifty more I would spend with you

Earl Grey and David Piper

Story

This song came out of one afternoon of hard work...David brought in the music and Earl took off with the lyrics. We kept after it until we had some semblance of an arrangement. We particularly liked this one because we were looking for songs that were more upbeat.

Lyrics

Apples/PIPER~GREY - She spilled out a basket of apples from my favorite tree. City boy was sleeping in this rural place, her apples at his feet. Apples float in space when the laws of gravity no longer apply to this place. I was bowing down real low when a ripe one hit my toe now I’m awake. A bottle of merlot couldn’t keep this foolish soul from his mistake. Apples float in space when the laws of gravity no longer apply to this place. And all through the day we were wasting away on my dream. Roses fell like quarter slots they rolled around and rested not my knees. and all through this day of release, we fell like the fruit from the forbidden tree. Apples float in space when the laws of gravity no longer apply, when the laws of gravity no longer apply, when the laws of gravity no longer apply to this place. Apples!...Apples! -

Story

This is the final song on our debut album, APPLES, from 2008. We often wondered if because it was the last song, perhaps it was not heard as much. Regardless, this is one of our favorites. Enjoy.

Lyrics

Open Sails  written by Earl Grey and David Piper

Looking for that simple something

In the balance of between

On a journey 'cross the sea of change

With no map of this terrain

Where do we go from here now?

Where do we go from here?

Through the feathered gates of happenstance

On an ocean of mirrors

       A nautical mile past sunset

Off the starboard side of dreams

       There will be no gales

       Only open sails

As we glide among the keys

And no one's ever stranded

But we've all been cast away

We could span this great equator

And be right back home today

And it seems we've travelled leagues now

It seems we've travelled leagues

Past the pillars of Odysseus

And the halls of Pericles

       A nautical mile past sunset

Off the starboard side of dreams

       There will be no gales

       Only open sails

As we glide along the keys

Open your wings and fly!

Open your wings and fly!

Open your wings...

Looking for that simple something in the balance of between...
